Our Project

In May 2024, CJE hosted a very special Erasmus+ training course named “Eyeland Captures” on São Miguel Island in the Azores archipelago. This event marked our most international initiative to date, bringing together youth workers from nine diverse countries: Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Lithuania, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, and Serbia.

São Miguel, with its unspoiled natural beauty, unique community, and remote setting amidst the Atlantic Ocean, provided an inspiring backdrop for the training. The island’s lush volcanic landscapes, picturesque lakes, and dramatic coastlines, combined with its rich mythical stories, offered a captivating setting. From the start, we were eager to immerse ourselves in the island’s stunning scenery and to hear the voices of the local community. The island’s sense of remoteness added to the intrigue and depth of the experience.

Throughout the activity, youth workers engaged in a range of practical exercises designed to enhance their skills in visual storytelling. These activities included the Photography Challenge, where youth workers captured São Miguel’s landscapes and vibrant local life; the Guerrilla Filmmaking activity, which required creating a short film within 24 hours featuring a local stranger; and the creation of documentaries that highlighted the island’s unique features and the stories of its people.

The warm hospitality and enthusiasm of the Azorean community, particularly in Rabo de Peixe, added a meaningful layer to the training. The locals’ openness and willingness to share their stories enriched the participants’ projects, making the experience even more memorable. The final documentaries produced by the youth workers are a testament to the success of “Eyeland Captures”. They beautifully capture the essence of São Miguel and the rich stories of its people. The island’s beauty and the heartfelt interactions with its residents left a lasting impression on everyone involved, showcasing the profound impact of storytelling.

Check out the incredible results from this unforgettable training and get a glimpse into the captivating stories and amazing content created. Stay tuned for more exciting activities like this in the future, and don’t miss your chance to be part of our next adventure!
